Many people see the two main divisions, when they think of crime: common criminals such as robbers and thieves, and organized crime. While organized crime can not affect your daily life, it is still important to be aware of its existence and its influence on the world.
The Mafia is perhaps best-known organized crime group in the world today. American mafia, which is also known as Cosa Nostra, is an offshoot of the Sicilian Mafia, Italian criminal organization. The origin of the Mafia in Italy, is believed to date back as far as the Middle Ages, when a group of wealthy families controlled Sicily, through their social status. Organized criminal group known as the American Mafia originated in the late 1800s on the East Coast following a wave of immigration from southern Italy.
The first group of the Mafia in America began in New York City, where the bandits will threaten immigrants in extortion. By 1890, organized crime has spread in New Orleans, where police officer was killed, shot, presumably the Mafia members. As organized crime has grown on this side of the ocean, criminal activities have expanded from extortion to drug and alcohol abuse, robbery, kidnapping, murder, usury, and dozens of other heinous crimes. In 1920, the ban led to a significant increase in alcohol sales and related activities of the Mafia.
By the end of 1920 there were two main factions Mafia in the United States. This caused a major war on mafia organized crime in New York, which lasted throughout the 1930s. It was during this time that Al Capone (or Scarface), headed by Chicago Outfit, one of the major families of crime mafias, and have saved the state reported more than one hundred million dollars. How many thieves and mafia, he was persecuted by the law for many years before he was finally caught for tax evasion.
By this time, the mafia is believed to have infiltrated most of the major trade unions across the country, especially the Teamsters Union. Today, despite the "Mafia" is a word used to designate almost any form of organized crime, it is estimated that there are about 26 large American families mafia in the U.S., as well as an offshoot groups and partners in many small towns. Mafia and its reputation have been depicted in movies, TV shows, books and video games. It is believed that Cosa Nostra has a hand in many major areas of crime, including labor racketeering, gambling, corruption, drug trafficking, pornography, tax evasion, and even stock manipulation.
