In several monthly news show announcing a further proposal in the child sex trade. Not so often mentioned is the thousands of "unsolved" cases involving the fastest growing crime in America - human trafficking. Tasks
forces such as the functioning Guardian Angel, a unique undercover law
enforcement to the demand for child prostitutes, is helping bring to
justice many.
Too many cases
Some all-too common examples of recent stories:
A young women were smuggled from Mexico to New York just to become a sex slave and prisoner, forced to prostitution with up to fifteen customers a day. When the child died because the kidnappers refused to seek treatment, the victim was forced to hide the remains of the child by its users. Charged were Domingo Salazar and his wife, Norma Mendez.
Antoinette Davis, is charged with trafficking and felony child abuse of her child after the surveillance tape captured the accused accomplice Andrette McNeill, carrying his own five years old daughter Antoinette Hotel in Sanford, just before her body was found.
Staggering numbers of victims
The numbers are impressive, even if they are hard to come by, given the "underground" nature of the crime. Trafficking Statistics Project UNESCO described the issue: "When it comes to statistics, trafficking of girls and women is one of the many highly emotive issues which seem to overwhelm critical awareness of numbers takes the life of their own, gaining acceptance through repetition, often. little research on derivatives. "
The UNICEF worldwide is estimated that victims are women and children to 1.75 million EUR, while the FBI is more modest in a 2001 estimate of 700 000 victims. The most widely quoted in various media reports are 1.2 million women and children, which is somewhere between these two extremes.
14,500 to 17,500 trafficked into the U.S. each year
While the most frequently reported number of "victims of trafficking" is a total 300,000 in the U.S., what is most definitely known is that the number of trafficked people in the United States each year is 14,500 to 17,500 according to U.S. statistics of Ministry ( 2005).
The average age of human trafficking operation in America is connected to 12 to 14 for girls and 11 to 13 for boys. Internationally, the crime trends younger, with 12 years of age, a child prostitutes "too old" to countries such as Cambodia.
Outside the issue may seem to be worse in Thailand, for example, at least 60% of prostitutes were found to have a child with HIV-even from about 1.2 million victims worldwide, a disproportionate percentage is supposed to be American based crimes.
Revenues from this terrible crime is estimated at $ 9.5 billion dollars. The costs of doing "business" has destroyed lives, children are abused and long-term damage done to millions of victims. According to the Coalition against Trafficking in Women (CATW), "A study of 207 women are trafficked into prostitution in Europe found that the vast majority (95 percent) suffered physical and sexual abuse ..." (Zimmerman et al, 2006).
Trafficking in the U.S.
U.S. Department of Justice estimated that 200,000 U.S. children were "at risk for trafficking in the sex industry," according to Attorney General John Ashcroftt 2003. Most of these victims come from Eastern Asia, estimated at about 7,000 victims the Ministry of Justice, with up and 5,500 victims from coming from Europe and Latin America. Unlike many countries, the U.S. role in fighting the second fastest growing crime, hampered by the difficulty of prosecution.
Difficult to prosecute
Trafficking is often difficult to prosecute. According Dorchen Leidholdt, Director Center for Families Legal Services bettered Women, the "victims of sex trafficking often arises in situations where their survival depends on external compliance with the requirements of their traffickers.
