Irene Watson, our guest, Shaila Abdullah, author of Beyond the Cayenne Wall, is pleased.

Hi Sheila, Thank you for you to take part in this interview.

Irene: Sheila, why you do not feel Beyond the Cayenne Wall was the most important book for you to write? What is the purpose of this book is for you?

Sheila: There are writers or outrage inside Pakistan managed to lift the veil reveal a great lack of richness. There is rape, abuse, home violence, sex, etc., and to this day it is a shame that the culture is considered a miscarriage, infertility, such as a divorce situation, such as this day is not talking publicly about the issues are different. For most women, life does not exist outside of her house with four walls and I think that it is important that venture outside the walls tell the stories of women find themselves. This book is the rise and their true selves, to find the unique person that can land them a message for women.

Pakistani women face a rough battle. Social traditions and family values to one side where they provide a glut, there is little or no freedom for them. The Hudood Ordinance unjustly jailed for lack of evidence that women who report rape subject. 60% of Pakistani women in prison today are there because of this law. Right to an independent commission, according to the initial part of the 600 women killed in Pakistan in 2003. Historically, women have fewer rights in a country where women’s rights and I believe that this is a breach of that global awareness about the changes they bring to future generations.

Irene: I challenge you to write this book and how you do not remove them?

Sheila: the Cayenne Wall, Beyond the life changing event, then began the process of writing as healing. In the beginning, I never thought that the stories that I was writing a book one day take shape. I am essentially an introvert and not easily found on my characters. I am a long time, Tannu, women who are caretakers of a sacred tradition, as the firstborn of the first effects are forced to struggle with the story. To pay the price because it was forced by her mother and her baby to go to the fertility of the holy prayers were also expected. I am haunted by that letter, I had created and to this day I wonder if I should write a book throughout the rest of his life. A summary of his strength, love and rebellion, a defiance that rare combination of tears, from the Act itself or its close relationship to the choices she did not want to create a life.

Irene: Entertainment stories to your collection or a broader mission than the storytelling. You have the mission and what you hope readers take away from reading a book, you can talk about?

Sheila: the Cayenne Wall Moreover, Pakistani women about the struggles and obstacles they face in life at every crosswalk is a collection of stories. Pakistan’s diaspora to increase awareness of multicultural issues I write about. Irene: Your book is considered fiction. Your characters are real stories that you received from a variety of women based on?

Sheila: a fictional character that I created most of Karachi, where I grew in place, a place that resonates with the cultural richness and sectarian differences. I find that the distance of the sights, sounds and recalling the location of a significant role to play. It is a fact that you do not realize what you have until it is removed from the capture of much of what is missing. My characters are derived from the introduction of a lifetime, there are stories and tales passed Dear friends said, but there are events that I have read about growing. I recreated the fantasy aspect of these stories.

Irene: What are you about the challenges of Pakistani women have a nonfiction book, rather than compelled to write fiction?

Sheila: Sometimes the truth is too jarring for people. Knowing that there is nothing that you have read the unfortunate events that are real rather than a Mother’s heart to invoke the dreaded feeling. Fiction readers sensitive to the soft padding offers. Important that the international community and still have enough stories to know that the free world has to take freedom for granted. We are certain that with the growth of luxury.

Irene: a western, it is difficult to fathom for me in your book about how women are treated harshly. The treatment of Pakistani popular culture?

Sheila: History, seen but not heard in the motto of many homes. The same rights granted to women in Islam, but to this day 1400 years ago in Pakistan, women are deprived of their fundamental rights. Violence and abuse at the hands of family members, law makers face. But this day, there is Pakistan, where the court, but tribal leaders decided that the punishment for the offense is part of the jirga. Honor crimes cases, women end up suffering as a payback to and fro in the indictment or other crimes committed by family members. Family honor is believed to be tied to the home, women, and yet they have no right. Mukhtar Mai, a gang rape against her raise her voice, perspective view of the case for the buck. He was accused Pakistan a bad name to be placed under house arrest. Where is the justice?

Irene: You do not believe that Pakistani women will never have the freedom of women in the United States?

Sheila: The changes are slow. With every administration that is often one step forward, two behind. The only hope for the coming years, more freedom, respect for women as part of the world that can bring justice. Perhaps women like Mukhtar Mai of Pakistan to increase poor women will stand up for their rights. I think that pressure from the international community can bring about changes.

Irene: Your book is available in Pakistan? If so, what was the reaction?

Sheila: This book is available worldwide. It is still brand new, having only been released in late October. I call for the interview and review requests for copies. I recently was interviewed by Voice of America Home Beyond their program. The show was broadcast on Geo TV on December 13. Chowrangi 2005 in New York in early December I was invited to fund long-term reconstruction and rehabilitation of schools to benefit from the Pakistan earthquake affected areas have not read the book. So far, a positive reaction to this book.

Irene: Do you process your book in the west?

Sheila: Very positive. It seems that there is such a great interest in the West. Beyond the Cayenne Wall, 2005 Norumbega Fiction Awards Jury Prize for Outstanding Fiction was awarded. Austin American Statesman was mentioned in this book. Happynews.com recently ran a story on a book. Book for two months, all the signs are encouraging.

Irene: What is your biggest reward has been the release of Beyond the Cayenne Wall?

Sheila: Like any new author, it gives a great rush. I have been told it is a great achievement but I think with that I should not wonder, once again. I already have ideas for three books that I am the first one in January and hope to start work. It’s hard around two years old, anything that is on your toes as practically 24/7 is not included, but I very very supportive husband who does not bat an eye when it is not lending a hand around the house, I am blessed.
